History: 1941: Joseph P. Byrne purchased house from Beecher for $6,500. Origionally house had steps from the porch side to driveway. He had sinks removed from many rooms. The sinks gave us the idea that it may have been a boarding house. Bathroom enlarged taking space from back bedroom which became the sewing room. 1958: Conversion to a 2-family home to accommodate daughter, Rosemary Cashman’s family. Steps to driveway removed and side porch entrance made. Small space with marble sink and two mirrors (opening to bedrooms on either side) eliminated to make new stairs. Previous stairs leading to mirrored landing and then up two steps removed, backstairs from landing down to kitchen also removed, first floor hall closets made. To level space small room under stairs to third floor was built. 1963: After death of J.P. Byrne, his wife “Roma” had to exit the center front door to come upstairs for dinner. While there, downstairs was burglarized. So a door was put in the lower back room. Said door lead to upstairs. Numerous attempts were made to fix the front yard.. ie: Sod, plants etc. But the tree’s roots prevented their growth. Hence cementing replaced the muddy front.
